Safer in Bed 02:30
Safer in bed I locked the front door, I bolted the back I’ve booby trapped my fridge, In case of imminent attack I sleep fully dressed I leave my boots on I’m just waiting for the end When everything is gone Should I get up this morning It may be safer to stay in bed My radio is off I’ve smashed my TV Sick of all those idiots Talking to me What’s going to change? It’s like a disease Seems crazy is contagion Blowin’ in on the breeze How can the guilty sleep when the innocent lie awake at night It doesn’t seem right, it can’t be right And I’d give you a call But I know you’re the same Hiding under the covers all avoiding the pain.

From now to Moses From now to Moses. From now to Moses. They will see your name, a callous game is what they’re playing. Your ways will make them doubt, but they’ll smell you out, with your way of praying. From now to Moses. From now to Moses. Nothing has changed but the wind, nothing escapes but the light., Who can be themselves, if you’re not off the shelf. You’ll be broken. Their words are made of air, they go nowhere, if ever spoken. History stalks us like our shadow in the sun. One day there’ll be a change, it won’t be strange to be who you are. Time won’t ease the pain, it will remain, like an old scar.

The guitar bird A little bird nested in my guitar A little bird nested in my guitar And I couldn’t play, I couldn’t play until the chicks all flew away A swarm of bees hummed in side my guitar A swarm of bees hummed inside my guitar And I couldn’t play, I couldn’t play until I licked that honey away And I was waiting for a song to come, I was waiting for a song. Flower seeds fell into my guitar Flower seeds fell into my guitar And I couldn’t play, I couldn’t play until the petals blew away The red sun set into my guitar The red sun set into my guitar And I couldn’t play, I couldn’t play until the moonlight stole away And I was waiting for a song to come I was waiting for a song….and here it comes.

Big Spring 02:53
Big Spring Well thank you for your letter, it came as some surprise Since that moon-lit night we ran from you and swallowed our goodbyes Now you want us to come back, to work the farm and land But you don’t own us now no sir, you don’t seem to understand That we want be coming back, won’t be going back to Big Spring And they were singing , Lord reach on down and take us Lord reach on down and take us. You paid us less than the cows, you paid us less than the sheep. You made us work good and hard, didn’t waste our time on sleep You called it home, we called it hell, with walls of fear and pain Such a god fearing man, you’ll have a lot to explain. You killed that union soldier, hid those rebels in the barn Let your sons rape Matilda, could you keep my girls from harm? And you’ll never see my face again, though you owe forty years back pay. And thank old George for grabbing your gun, when you shot at me that day.

Music Kills 03:01
Music kills I’m gonna sing this song until I croak A song don’t care if I’m rich or broke I’ll be an old man going out of tune I’ll be a madman howling at the moon So I’ll keep playing, I’ll keep playing ‘cos music kills me it empties me out then refills me cos music slays me it can stop this poor heart and raise me Can’t stop the notes from dancing round my brain Can’t stop the words from falling down like rain It’s all I am and all ‘ll ever be I’ll strum this box ‘til there’s nothing left of me So I’ll keep singing, I’ll keep singing Silence has never been my thing; listening to Jolson, Coward and the King.

Amigo 03:20
Amigo What pain drives a man to do What you did to you What world had you fallen into? Amigo. What times turn the light to dark Erase the breath and the spark Maybe you thought you’d left your mark, Amigo Raise the roof Amigo, I’ll raise my glass Raise the roof Amigo, all things must pass. And the world turned black and white Hope was nowhere in sight But you were somewhere else that night, Amigo What pain drives a man to do What you did to you What world had you fallen into? Amigo. Raise the roof Amigo, I’ll raise my glass Raise the roof Amigo, all things must pass.

Sharing the view with Ms Paulus Warm rain kissing in a star filled sky The midwife’s smile and our babies cry The sea still sparkles and I’ll tell you why ‘Cos I’m sharing the view with Ms Paulus The Cornish sunshine as the waves crash in The soft sand sticking to our salty skin The world’s still crazy but I’ll watch it spin ‘Cos I’m sharing the view with Ms Paulus. The M6 crawling through a drip dry sky Our hillside roost where the jackdaws fly I hold her hand and I heave a sigh ‘Cos I’m sharing the view with Ms Paulus.

Crash Me 04:53
Crash me (1980) Steam me open here’s my hand. Stake me out in the hottest sun in the hottest land If you want to crash me, crash me now Drive me faster, spin my wheel. Let me career over lovers leap when my heart you steal If you want to crash me, crash me now With a whisper close my eyes. Make me sleep for a thousand years with your tender lies If you want to crash me, crash me now.

Humble 02:43
Those speeches you make bring a tear to my eye You want to save the world, want to give ‘til you die I’m filled with pride knowing you do it for me Stood holding my chains man, you set me free. And you make me feel, you make me feel. You make me feel kind of humble. The papers don’t know you But I think I do, ‘cos when you’re on TV well your eyes are true I’ll give you my trust. I’ll give you my vote ‘Cos when the snow starts to fall I know you’d give me your coat. Some say that I’m stupid, some say I’m naïve Some say if you could you’d tax the air that I breath But I don’t believe them I know it’s not true ‘Cos when you’re kissing that baby, I know it’s your baby too.

The history of the world so far. A fish from the sludge started walking around He picks up a rock and a stick that he found Makes him and axe, chops him a tree Sets up a home with a cute chimpanzee That’s the history of the world so far Someone invents the wheel and someone steals my car. He does very well with opposable thumbs He waits and he waits until the iron age comes He makes him a gun, kills all he sees Discovers genetics through studying peas The next thing you know he’s up flying in space He lands on the moon like a fly on its face He looks all around, sees he’s alone Then shits in a crater before flying back home.

The Bearded Lady I’m just a man with impulse and desire A real handsome woman still lights my fire And when I saw her at that strange travelling show That’s when this yearning started to grow. She said do you have feelings for me? I said yes…..well maybe, I got a thing, got a thing for the bearded lady Painted in tattoos of beauty and verse Shakespeare on her left breast, on her hip a lover’s curse. When she entered the big top, astride a horse of pure white Naked and magnificent, she haunted my nights And when she kissed me. Her whiskers soft on my face. Her mouth warm with sweetness. We held a hungry embrace.
